About Frankfort

Frankfort, Kentucky’s capital, is a unique small city and in 2010 was named one of the 20 Best Small Cities To Raise A Family by Forbes Magazine (Forbes, 10/25/2010). Frankfort is conveniently situated 54 miles east of Louisville and 29 miles west of Lexington. Interstate 64 runs east/west through Frankfort, while Interstates 65 and 75 run north/south bound just a few miles down the road.

Blessed with natural beauty, beautiful historic and modern architecture, Frankfort is considered one of the most picturesque (and smallest) state capitals in the United States. A tradition of generous hospitality, rich cultural and architectural history, affordable housing and low cost of living all make Frankfort a delightful community.

Frankfort is in the top 8 percent nationally for affordability of property taxes, the top 10 percent for short commute times, and top 14 percent in affordability of rent. Within the entire state of Kentucky, Frankfort is also in the top 11 percent for racial diversity, the top 16 percent for walking and biking to work, and the top 19 percent for well-paid single women.

Frankfort’s population of 27,000, combined with Franklin County’s 21,167, make our community large enough to support a wide variety of restaurants, shops and attractions, while small enough to maintain a relaxed, small-town atmosphere.
